Distribute $4$ through the parentheses
$4x+12-\left( 6x+2 \right)$
When there is a $-$ in front of an expression in parentheses, change the sign of each term of the expression and remove the parentheses
$4x+12-6x-2$
Collect like terms
$-2x+12-2$
Subtract the numbers
$-2x+10$
